Er, I mean, The Fandom Gives Back. ;)
The Fandom Gives Back is back for round two, Eclipse Edition. It will be running from June 26-July 2, surrounding the release of the third movie in the Twilight Saga, Eclipse (June 30). People throughout the fandom, both the active and the simply supportive, are donating their time, services, and/or creations to the cause. Now that I am an affiliate with them, I have offered to bring attention to their cause and will also be offering up some of my products during the auctions. I will be giving away 50 pairs of earrings on the auction boards only. They will be red, white, or black bottle caps, and they will have their logo in the center with a 3/4" inch white, circle background. They will also come with either or silver or gold attachments. They will be $10 with all proceeds going to Alex's Lemonade Stand (the foundation the Fandom Gives Back is raising money for) during the week of the auctions. Once the auctions are complete, the earrings will be for sale in the store for $10 with half of the proceeds continuing to go to Alex's Lemonade Stand in the name of the Fandom Gives Back. I will have pictures of these earrings before the auctions go up.
As part of a refresher, for those who have no idea what this post is about, let me explain what The Fandom Gives Back and Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation are.
The Fandom Gives Back is an initiative that was started by three very organized fans of the Twilight series. They realized how huge the Twilight Fandom had become and how we could use our numbers for good. During the release of New Moon, they held a week long auction of goods and services from all the fans that signed up. The initial goal was $10,000, but they were scared that even that would be expecting too much. They were given a pleasant surprise from the Twilight community. They ended up raising over $87,000, all of it going directly to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. People offered their time, their skills, their money, and their support worldwide. Now it's back and has grown exponentially. Their new goal for this year is to raise $100,000 and I think we can pull it off if we all work together. For more information about them and what they are attempting to accomplish, please see their site. (www.thefandomgivesback.com)
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is a charity that raises money to fight childhood cancer. A little girl, named Alex Scott (1996-2004), who was diagnosed with cancer at an early age, was fond of having lemonade stands and decided she wanted her money to help other kids with cancer. For a little more insight, here is a piece from their website, explaining how they began as an organization.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation first began in 2000, when a then 4-year-old cancer patient named Alex voiced a simple wish - she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help "her doctors" find a cure for all kids with cancer. The idea was put into action when Alex held her very first lemonade stand on her family’s front lawn in July of that same year. For the next four years, despite her deteriorating health, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. There are now several "stands" held on their website that raise money, both online and offline. They have raised over $30 million over the years. The money that is raised goes to the families in need, intensive research, and educational resources. Also, since we're on the topics of Twilight and charities, Stephenie Meyer is out with a new book on June 5th. It's about one of the newborn vampires we meet in Eclipse, named Bree Tanner. It tells her story as a human and what it was like to become a vampire. While it will be free online, you can also purchase a hardcover version of the book, with $1 of every purchase going towards American Red Cross to help places like Haiti, which was ravaged with a large, destructive earthquake not too long ago. However, even if you don't want to purchase the book, you can still go to the online site (www.breetanner.com) when it is available to make a donation to the Red Cross. So if you are a Twilight fan, this is a great way to help out. You can pre-order the book below.
I thank all of you for reading this and I hope that you can help out in any way possible. Even if it's simply spreading the word about The Fandom Gives Back, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
